Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 September 2026
This policy explains what Zeno collects, why, and what you can do about it. Zeno is a focus and app-blocking app for iPhone, made by Zeno ("we", "us").
If anything here is unclear, write to edvinaslund1@gmail.com and we'll answer.
The short version
- Your Screen Time data — which apps you use and for how long — stays on your iPhone. We never receive it.
- We store your account and your progress (streak, XP, gems, tasks, blocks) so you don't lose them when you change phone.
- We use two companies to run the app: Google (Firebase) and PostHog. Both process data on our behalf.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't show you advertising.
What we collect
Your account. When you sign up with Apple, Google or an email address we store a user id, and the email address if your sign-in provides one. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only ever see the relayed address Apple gives us.
Your progress. Your streak, XP, gems, keys, level, league position, daily quests, the tasks you write, your avatar, and the blocks you set up — their names, times and settings. This is what makes your account worth having, and it is what we restore on a new device.
Your subscription status. Whether Zeno Plus is active and when it renews or ends. Purchases themselves are handled by Apple; we never see your card.
How the app is used. Which screens you open, which steps of onboarding you finish, when you start and finish a block, and whether you subscribe. This is recorded with a random identifier, not your name, and it is what tells us which parts of Zeno are confusing. It includes session replays: a reconstruction of taps and screens inside Zeno, with all text you type masked.
Diagnostics. Crash and error reports, so we can fix what breaks.
What we never collect
- Your Screen Time detail. Zeno uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) to block apps and to show your usage. Apple's design keeps that data on your device and hides app identities from us. Your usage totals and app selections are not sent to our servers.
- Your contacts, photos, location or health data.
- The content of your notifications or messages.
Why we're allowed to (legal bases)
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Performing our contract with you — running your account, syncing your progress, and giving you what Zeno Plus promises.
- Our legitimate interests — keeping the app working, preventing abuse, and understanding which parts of the app people get stuck on, in a form that isn't tied to your name.
Who processes data for us
| Who | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Firebase) | Sign-in, storing your progress, remote settings, crash reports | EU and US |
| PostHog | Product analytics and session replay | EU |
| Apple | Subscriptions, Sign in with Apple, push notifications | Worldwide |
Each of them acts on our instructions. Data may be transferred outside the EU/EEA under the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Your account and progress stay until you delete your account. Analytics events are kept for up to 12 months; session replays for 30 days. Deleted accounts are removed from our live systems immediately and from backups within 30 days.
Your choices
- Delete everything. Settings → Account → Delete account removes your account and your progress. It cannot be undone.
- Turn off analytics. Settings → Privacy → Share usage data. With it off, no usage events or replays are recorded.
- Get a copy, or object. Write to edvinaslund1@gmail.com and we'll send what we hold about you, correct it, or stop processing it.
- Notifications and Screen Time permission can be withdrawn at any time in iOS Settings.
Children
Zeno is for people aged 13 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always shows the current version.
